This is a birthday card for my daffodil loving Mum. I use Gustav Klimt, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Margaret MacDonald MacIntosh and Art Deco as my inspiration. Especially the Deco period tiles and stained glass windows. This is my take as a mixed media card. I’ve used a sample of upholstery fabric that’s textured and has silver woven into it for texture and tone. The flower petals are offcuts of felt and the stems and leaves are offcuts from quilting fabric fat quarters. I have glued the pieces to the base fabric, then machine stitched in black thread in both straight and zigzag for outlining. I prefer gluing the individual pieces to the base fabric as it holds awkward pieces better than pins. The card used is a pre-cut Deco card and I have added green foiled columns to either side for add more detail. To finish I glue the sewn piece to the card. I used Dovecraft Ultimate Craft Glue as the small bottle fits perfectly in my hand and can be easily controlled, plus it dries quickly without staining.
