Sweetie Jar Penny Spinner Card with Me To You Sweet Shop and First Edition Dies

Whilst looking through the cute Me To You Sweet Shop decoupage pad I was drawn to the bear juggling sweeties and thought it might be fun to make an interactive card like my penny spinner designs.  This time instead of a full circle I have made a small slight arc to allow a sweet jar to tumble and look as if it is pouring sweeties for the bear to juggle and dance among.  (that’s the theory anyway :D)  I do have a little video to show the card in action if you want to see it working https://youtu.be/omXUXS1O4gQ

  • I started by using a Dovecraft 6x6” white card blank as my base card and cut papers from the Sweet Shop 6x6” paper pad to create 2 mat layers.  A green striped paper for the base and a white bear patterned paper for the mat layer, adhering both down flat to card base with double sided tape.

  • Using the middle sized die from the First Edition Nesting Postage Stamp dies I cut 1 in white card and 1 in yellow paper from the Sweet Shop pack, adhering the yellow paper onto the white one (so it gives strength to hold the pennies).  Take 2 pennies and add 3D foam to the centre of 1 penny trimming it into a circle so it only covers the centre.  Line up and stick the 2nd penny on top.  Take a craft knife and carefully cut out a slit in the yellow postage stamp shape using your pennies as a guide as you need the opening to be smaller than the pennies so it holds them in place.  Slip the edge of the bottom penny under the edge of the slit and check it spins freely.  Add a double height of 3D foam pads to the back of the postage shape (avoid going too close to the cut out to allow free movement of the penny mechanism). Attach section to card front at top left.

  • Using white card die cut an open jar shape from the First Edition Pots & Vases die set (if using thin card cut twice and stick together for strength). Use a FE Light Grey marker pen to shade around the jar shape and then stick jar centrally on top of the penny showing through the cut out.

  • Assemble the decoupage character using 3D foam pads and trim around the image.  Cut another Nesting Postage Stamp shape from the yellow paper and this time make the shape smaller by carefully lining up your stamp die over the already cut stamp shape to cut off the extra.  Use double sided tape to stick this shape at bottom right of card front, slipping the edge under the larger raised stamp shape.  Add the decoupage character.

  • Take extra die cut sweet shapes from the decoupage pad and glue to jar and to look as if they are tumbling from the jar, also add a few around the bear .

Cut the ‘Sweetiepie’ sentiment from the Sweet Shop paper and add along bottom left of card using 3D foam pads.  To finish add 3 Sweet Shop enamel dots to top right of card.  The fun part is the playing, so have fun tipping the card to make the jar spin.
