MUM  3D Letters card with Dovecraft Serendipity Collection

What a beautiful, bright and fun collection  ‘Serendipty’ is.  I needed to make a couple of projects for my Mum’s birthday and knew this collection would be perfect as mum likes the pretty prints and patterns that are very fashionable and has similar on bags and aprons etc.  I always try and create something that she hasn’t seen from me before and that gets harder and harder to do each time :D  now some may refer to their Mothers as Mother, Mum, Mam, Mom, Ma, mine is MUM and so I thought about that word and the letters become the focus of my card.  I made the letters quite big but that are ‘hinged’ so they fold down to fit into an envelope (bit like a pop up box card does).  Big Letters need a sturdy base, so the base is a strip of Mount board covered in pretty paper.

  • First I cut the 3D letters from FE Textured cardstock using my Cricut Explore.  (As the letters are simple block style they could also be cut using a template or even by printing off letters from a word document and cutting out to use as templates, just remember to allow card for the hinged areas top and bottom).

  • I cut different patterned papers from the 8x8 Serendipity pack for the front of each letter and different ones again for the Inside of the letters, sticking with a combination of double sided tape and wet glue.  I then completed each letter shape into 3D by gluing the hinge tabs and pressing down to check they will fold down easily. I edged each of the letters front papers with Dovecraft glitter glue in ‘Crystal’.

  • Decorating each letter was fun using lots of different elements from the Serendipity collection.  I made use of the sentiment ribbons by gluing strips across the letter ‘M’s.  I used the lace ribbon to follow the shape of the letter ‘U’.  The first letter ‘M’ has a wooden heart shaped button threaded with twine, a paper blossom & leaf and pale green and blue sequins.  The letter ‘U’ has an accordion sticker and a best wishes sentiment topper.  The final letter ‘M’ has been wrapped with blue organza ribbon tied in a bow.  There is also a little bunting detail spanning the ‘U’ & ‘M’ letters.  All the letters have pale green and blue sequins to decorate them.

  • A strip of mount board was then covered in another of the Serendipity papers and the letters carefully positioned on top, when happy with placement I added glue to the bottom hinge of each letter and pressed into place.  For extra stability I added a coupled of acetate strips to join the top letters by gluing the strips inside the top hinge parts.  When everything was dry I checked again that it all would fold down easily.  To finish I added extra glitter glue to some of the decorative elements like the Bunting, accordion sticker etc.
