Konichiwa Lantern Card – First Edition Floral Fusion Papers

I fell in love with the new Floral Fusion papers the moment I saw them, the oriental themed patterns and colours are really pretty and versatile too.  I thought about making Lanterns and realised that I could actually use my Christmas bauble dies to give the effect, and a simple hello (konichiwa) card was created.

Step by Step:

Cut 3 strips of green pattern paper approx. 1.5” wide from the Floral Fusion pad, I’m using the cherry blossom pattern and turned it over for the middle strip.

Mat all 3 strips onto slightly larger strips of black card and then again onto a red card front (6x6 with fold across top) using d/s tape.  To help with spacing I find it easier to adhere the left and right strips first, then add the centre strip.

Using bauble dies, cut 3 shapes from different pattern papers in the Floral Fusion pad (I’m using a red and gold and a pale blue and gold) if your bauble dies have elongated ends then just snip the bottom off.  Die cut bauble tops from gold card and create tassels for the bottom of each lantern by simply snipping into gold card and gently easing the strips apart, trim down to required size and glue to bottom of each lantern.

I had some tiny pearl trim and so used that to thread through the tops of the baubles, securing ends on back of lantern shape, leaving other end loose for now  (use any trim you have, maybe gold coloured thread?)

Using FE border dies or similar, die cut a border from black card and snip into it to create individual elements.

Use 3D foam squares to attach each lantern to a panel on the card front and take the hanging trim up to top of panel, add a dab of glue and then glue a black border piece across each trim to secure in place.  Cut the pearl trim so it overhangs the top of the card a little.

To finish, Apply Simply Creative gold foil alphas to spell out ‘Konichiwa’ across the bottom of the card (or your own greeting if preferred)

Thank you so much, I think the bauble dies worked out fine for lanterns, especially with the Floral Fusion papers, it is nice to find other ways to use out dies :)
