Do you keep a journal aswell as a scrapbook
Hi, I am new here. I keep a visual diary which is a bit like a scrapbook and I really enjoy using it. I have always kept a journal of my feelings but went through a recent phase of being worried about privacy so I had my old journals scanned and have them on my hard drive, the originals have been binned. I now keep my journal on a notepad where I can tear out pages I don't want to keep, this is more of a journal for processing thoughts and getting things off my chest. My visual diary is a record of events and photos etc. I don't really want to merge the two. Do you keep a journal separate to a scrapbook and if so what do you use?

Re: Do you keep a journal aswell as a scrapbook
Hi Jill and welcome to Trimmie land. We're a friendly lot despite being somewhat bonkers on occasion    I don't really keep a diary except for making a note of how far I've managed to walk each day, and putting appointments in like doctor, dentist, etc. so no one would find it remotely interesting to read   I am in the process of making myself a smash book though and you'll see there is a separate thread on smash books at the moment which you might like to look at if you haven't already. Basically it will include whatever I want it to!!! Having said that and thought about it I suspect it might well become a craft one as I'll finally have a home for all those bits and pieces of paper I write info on and can never find afterwards   I've included some pockets in it as well so will add info on how I made them as I can never remember. Not sure if this is exactly the info you were after but I know that sometimes people keep journals which could also be considered smash books. Hope you enjoy being a Trimmie and I'll look forward to seeing the projects you create and share with us.
So much to craft, so little time

Re: Do you keep a journal aswell as a scrapbook
Hi Jill and welcome to Trimmies... I love the idea of a visual diary and have seen a lot of chatter on project life and project 365 with a picture/page a day type endeavour. I also looked into blip foto as an online option with a pic a day to portray moments in a life. I think it is a great idea and one best started at the beginning of a year so I have a note to have a go in 2014. This year I have my smash type arty style journal which is a real mish mash of this n that and very much a work in progress  Rather like me    I do keep a written diary but it is not particularly interesting to anyone else and is more out of necessity than anything else. It contains the minutiae of my life... I also have an online journal but the content there is more considered as I know that it can be seen by anyone who stumbles across it.

Re: Do you keep a journal aswell as a scrapbook
Hi, thanks for your welcome and your replies. The visual diary was my friend's idea and I am really loving it. I don't always paste in pictures but try to whenever one is relevant. I find it easier to look back on than the journal writing I do which can be longwinded and 'moany' so I think I shall stick to doing that on a seperate notepad as a more none permanent thing but the visual diary will stay. I am using a large exercise book which is taking ages to fill and I have two more in waiting, they cost 99p each from Rymans. I love having memories to look back on but have decided to let go of the negative stuff, hence the journals. I do note in my visual diary is something negative happens, after all life is never perfect, but I just record it and don't put all the details in there so I know its happened and when but the offloading goes into the notepad.

Re: Do you keep a journal aswell as a scrapbook
I sometimes put more personal bits into little pockets or envelopes in my journals. That way they are not on open view but I know they are there. And if and when you show your journal to someone they just look at the main stuff and don't tend to delve in your pockets/envelopes...if they do you move them on quickly! I started off with a spiral bound sketchbook and as I was adding pictures, tickets etc and it was getting too full to close took out half of the pages to use on another project where I made my own book.
I really appreciate all your lovely comments on my projects. Your feedback is very important to me.
