Recipe request
Hi all. I was diagnosed diabetic earlier this week so I will have to make some changes to my diet. I love ice cream and so I need to find a recipe that is sugar free that I can make at home. Can anyone help please? Kathy

Re: Recipe request
Kathy, just Google diabetic ice cream recipe. It comes up with lots of different sites which have diabetic recipes, far too many for me to list  hope this helps.

Re: Recipe request
Diabetes UK have a magazine called Balance. If you join they send you the magazine every other month. It is full of info and recipes plus general health tips. It is well worth joining. They say that you should avoid foods labelled Diabetic as they tend to replace sugar with fat which is even worse for you. Also be careful with artificial sweeteners as some of them have a laxative effect. My OH is type 1 and we try to use normal products, but smaller portions.

Re: Recipe request
Mays given one of the sites I would advise but if you are on Facebook you can join the group there and again regular newsletters with a recipe book you can download for free. Will get on computer later and get links for you. If I can find the link for the free bokk download will e-mail it to you. Hope all goes well for you.

Re: Recipe request
I think The Ladies Have Given You "Sound" advice Hunny.... Im Not Diabetic So I can not Help you Im afraid... But My MIL was... And A very good Friend was.... There Are Lots of People Living Normal Healthy Lives With This Condition... Its A "Label" And I dont like being "Labled" Its Kind of like "One bag Fits ALL" And It should not be so... were all "individual" With Individual Needs... And What works for one may not on another.... I think to There may Also be "Local" Groups for you to join?... Ask Adult Social services What Is Available for you.. As Im sure My MIL and Friend used to have a Chiropodist Come to there home to "Sort out Toe nails and feet"..(I may be getting mixed up with Different Types of Diabetes..im no expert) good Luck Hunny Im sure Its Just a thing Of Eating Sensible And Regular So Smaller Portions Is the way to go...  I can Not Eat Salt due to my CKD And It Is Surprising What Hidden things are Actually In Any "ready meal Things" Such as Tins etc.. Read The Label on them... I think A "local store" by me Has a Special Section Just for Diabetic Patients.. Just have a look around.. Im sure There will be Things By you too Know you Know What Your Dealing with... Eventually It will just become Part of Life and You will automatically read/look up Things Thats Suitable for you

Re: Recipe request
Hi Tazzy, I think you are spot-on with your thinking. I'm not particularly anxious about this. It's just another thing to get on with, I've been working to get my blood pressure down all year and have been trying all sorts of different meds and have only just managed it,(I've taken meds for over thirty years) so this is just another condition that needs organising. I'm having my first visit to the 'diabetic clinic' tomorrow so that should be fun  . May I looked at the UK diabetes site and have joined, Thank you for the info. Kathy x

Re: Recipe request
Kathy ask them about a Desmond/Daphne course ( its a day long course where they teach you about looking after your diabetes but might go under a different name in your area). I am lucky as I am still diet controlled but my son is type 1 so does have to inject.
