Pinking shears and eyelets???
I would like to try a few little fabric projects and considering investing in a few new tools that might help. Firstly a decent pair of pinking shears that will cut through fabric and felt? Any thought or recommendations please? Are pinking shears still the way to go or should I be looking at a rotary cutter? Also can anyone advise me on using eyelets on fabric projects? What sort of eyelet setter would you suggest? Do I need to invest in something like a Crop-o-dile? Thank you, help would be much appreciated. xx
love Adele.

Re: Pinking shears and eyelets???
Hello!! Not sure about the pinking shears vs rotary cutter. But I do know about the eyelet setting! I've got a pair of punch pliers that I bought from The Range in their DIY dept. They are fab and I use them all the time for all sorts of projects. I also have some eyelet setters that I bought from Aldi that have proved good for that sort of thing. They weren't that expensive.

Re: Pinking shears and eyelets???
For cutting fabric and especially felts I use a sharp rotary cutter As you need a smooth glide effect especially on Felts.. Cant help you much with the Eyelet setters I either use My Memory Keepers one that I use on my card crafts or a Old Industrial one I managed to snag at a car boot sale many many moons ago.. My "Good" Pinking shears where made redundant yeas ago After I bought my Overlocker as I dont have to be that precise cutting out as My overlocker Trims the Fabric off as it cuts.... Good Job really as I caught My Eldest Chomping Wires with them..at the time he said "Scissors are scissors" .. Good luck with your choice just remember to keep a seperate pair of scissors for fabric work ;) ;)
I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one.

Re: Pinking shears and eyelets???
Someone recommended vintage pinking shears and I have just ordered myself a pair for £6.99, not sure what they will be like but I thought it worth a try. Thank you for your ideas and advice. xxx

Re: Pinking shears and eyelets???
i have some dressmaking shears, they don't cut the zig zags but have teeth. I must admit I prefer my cutting mat and rotary cutter though, I find it to be more precise.xx

Re: Pinking shears and eyelets???

Mundial Red Dot - Pinking shears are good a choice if you looking for good quality shears

or if you prefer a rotary cutter then you could go for an Olfa Rotary Wave Cutter 45mm WAC-2,

A thing to note about the Rotary cutter is that it cuts a wave pattern with rounded corners, compared to the Mundial Pinking Shears they cut very well with pinking (zig zag effect).

However if you want to make lots of fabric swatches or other samples, on a bigger scale then you need a sample swatch cutter gillotine, a fantastic machine for cutting samples with pinking ( zig zag edges). not a cheap machine, but a great tool.
