Re: UNBRANDED DIES
I bought some of the unbranded dies on Sue's sayso and am very happy with them - particularly the price! I think the most I spent on any one die was about £3.00 :D
So much to craft, so little time

Re: UNBRANDED DIES
I agree they are amazing value...but I have seen a lot of them now (especially on FB groups) and many are exact replicas of well known brands ...and I know this because I have the originals.....and that leaves me feeling torn between a bagging what is clearly a bargain and supporting what is clearly a blatant rip off of an established company's designs :? So far I have resisted but I have seen a couple of fab dies at amazing prices and I do not recognise the designs and so may try to convince myself these are okay... but my conscience tells me rip offs are never okay... dratted conscience  I will admit that the rip offs of one particular brand (which I think are overpriced anyway) do not prickle my conscience... but sadly these are not the dies that I find tempting

Re: UNBRANDED DIES
I gave a suspicion that the dies that we recognise from China are made there anyway and the mark up brands put in them is therefore extortionate. Suspicious..moi? I am resisting at the moment, but the temptation is still there. One brands dies are so expensive, that I would never buy them otherwise. If it sells from China At £2 and they are making a profit?.....and a recognisable similar die is £18.99 ..who is ripping off who? Shall I or I shan't I ? Mmm! Debate with self.
I really appreciate all your lovely comments on my projects. Your feedback is very important to me.

Re: UNBRANDED DIES
If you look at the packaging of "known brands" they say made in China I'm afraid my conscience hasn't been pricked at all as the ones sold in the UK are vastly overpriced barring the dovecraft which are £2.50 and the trimcraft which retail at £10 for a set. These are fairly priced in my opinion Xxx

Re: UNBRANDED DIES
I suspect someone working in China has been rather enterprising and copied the dies clearly marking them unbranded to avoid legal confusion ;) A lot of big brands bring out similar versions and some of the more generic designs are probably fair game. I guess the dilemma would be if any designs are under copyright. I dislike the he idea of being ripped off by overpricing too....but our govt adds to that particular pain with flipping taxes

[/quote:10fj148c] I did the same thing...picked a few dies I liked the look of and that I hadn't seen elsewhere as a branded die (to ease my conscience  ) placed my max bid very low and to my surprise I won four of the seven I had bid on  Grand total of a little over eight quid so I don't care how long they take to arrive and I shan't cry if they aren't brill...will let you know when they arrive. P&P was free so if they do actually come on the proverbial slow boat from China I can't complain

RE:Re: UNBRANDED DIES

If youve bought the original die and then see it selling at wish or Aliexpress at much cheaper prices (this is where eBay get them from) to me it's a infringement on copy laws. However the ones I've bought from Ali are all unbranded and much much smaller than any branded ive seen that are similar (like square stitched die or embossing folders) . So I suppose my question is:- if the dies look the same as branded but are much smaller is it still an infringement?
