pour on epoxy HELP PLEASE

I use a good pour on epoxy resin over wood trays or lazy susans. I then drill holes in it. I have a nice template but when I drill holes the resin separates from the surface causing air between the resin and wood. I really need a way to stop this from happening. I just want nice drilled holes without the resin separating from the surface..Any suggestions? I have tried drilling fast, slow, light pressure, hard pressure.

Any suggestions may help......

Have you tried roughing up the wood with sandpaper to help the resin to stick better?

What drill bits are you use? I used bits for wood and did not experience such problems
