The New Year has started with much excitement as I’ve had so many new goodies to get crafting with. Plus, I am looking forward to joining the Trimcraft team at my first creative industry trade show.
My craft stash has had a major boost with two new Dovecraft collections of papers and embellishments, new First Edition dies and some cool Dovecraft sentiment stamps. I’ve had a very creative time putting them to good use and making sample projects for Create & Craft TV shows as well as the January trade exhibitions Creativation and Creativeworld.
I didn’t get to present on the latest TV shows as they were broadcast from the CHA Creativation show in Phoenix, USA. Instead, viewers were treated to the amazing Angela Johnson’s demonstrations of the brand new Craft a Card dies. You all loved them so much they sold out in just one hour. That meant my show here in the UK was cancelled and while I was a bit disappointed I can’t help but be delighted that you all loved the dies and snapped them up as soon as they launched. There will be a selection available in The Range so don’t worry if you missed out on buying them from the show.
Also launched on the Create & Craft show broadcast from Phoenix was one of the new Dovecraft ranges. Painted Blooms has been designed in collaboration with Collier Campbell, a team of designers renowned for their beautiful artistic patterns. Inspired by nature, all of the designs are hand painted- meaning delicate brush strokes feature in the patterns which incorporate birds, butterflies and flowers. It’s easy to get inspired when a collection is so well-designed.
I have really enjoyed crafting with this collection as well as the Dovecraft Blooming Lovely range. Despite sharing a common floral theme both collections are very different. Blooming Lovely is perfect for Easter crafts, Mother’s Day and spring celebrations with its bright colours and fun patterns. I love the sunshine yellow combined with rose pink, delicate purple, baby blue and teal making crafting with this collection really exciting.
As I write I am busily preparing for Creativeworld, a creative hobbies tradeshow held in Frankfurt, Germany. I have been trying out some new papercraft techniques which I hope to be able to demonstrate at the show. I’ve written about a few of them on my blog (www.kathycraftstv.wordpress.com/blog) As it’s my first time at the show, I am not sure what to expect but I hope to meet lots of creative people and pick up a few new techniques too. One of the things I love most about crafting is the feeling that there is always more to learn. I am constantly learning new card shapes, discovering new tips and techniques and putting new ideas to the test. They don’t always come out as successfully as I’d hoped but there is no such thing as a mistake when crafting, it’s just a work in progress.
Finally this month I’ve been doing a spot of writing. As well as my regular posts on here I have been keeping my own blog up to date and, excitingly, working on some new magazine features. I have been lucky enough to be given a regular slot in Making Cards magazine, offering a few cardmaking tips and sharing what I’ve been up to. It’s fantastic to see my ideas in print and readers’ comments have been great. The latest issue is out this Friday so make sure you get your copy!
