Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I have been married for 28 years to my wonderful Architect husband. We met in college at Arizona State University. We have two wonderfully creative kids: Tyler who is 21 and is a 2-D animator and Katie who is 17 and a competitive swimmer who is hoping to swim in college while she studies Kinesiology.
When did you first realise that you had a passion for design?
Oh gosh, that would have been in 3rd grade. My teacher Violet Frost always had us doing art projects and that year I wrote in my book that I wanted to be an Artist.
Which other designers do you look up to?
I am lucky enough to have surrounded myself with some of the best designers in the industry. We all met in the late 1980’s, some of us were artists and some of us were working for publishing companies. A few including, Anne Higgins, Dena Fishbein, Brenda Walton, Sheila Meehan, Kathleen Francour. We all have different talents and we admire each others work
What advice would you give to the future generation of designers?
Do what you love, surround yourself with people who believe in you.
Where do you get your inspiration for your designs?
I love to go ‘junkin’ and it is on those trips that I find inspiration from past generations. I collect vintage ephemera and it is from those little scraps of paper, that I am inspired by a colour combination, typography or a motif.
Do you like to craft?
Yes, my daughter does too – so I always have a crafting companion. One should never craft alone.
What is your favourite Trimcraft collection so far?
North Pole, this collection reminded me of my childhood. In particular, the darling vintage Christmas illustrations and the simple colour palette which brought back the memories of writing letters to Santa.
What trends can we expect to see from you in the future?
The illustrations from the 1940’s and 1950’s. And Paris – it will never go out of style.
Do you have any hobbies?
Crafting when I have the time. Once our daughter heads off to college, I am hoping to do much more travelling with my husband and friends.
If we gave you a million pounds how would you spend it?
I would travel to Europe and visit as many flea markets as possible. I’d also explore all of the wonderful culinary treats in each country.
