August Craft Diary by Kathy Hodson

As we near the end of the summer holidays I am battling mixed feelings. It will be nice for the kids to be back at school and to have my craft room to myself again but I will definitely miss having them around.

They have been to activity clubs for a couple of weeks of the holidays so that has kept them busy, but while they’ve been at home I have let them loose on some crafty projects.

I went back to where my papercraft journey began when we visited a local craft café. It was here, a few years ago now, that my friend invited me and my daughter to meet for a creative afternoon. I chose to have a go at decoupage, something I’d never seen before but was instantly hooked! This time, when I took both children to have more crafty adventures, they chose to paint pottery and, nostalgically, I opted for another decoupage project.

I confess, I took some of my own Trimcraft First Edition Deco Mache craft papers as I can’t resist the new Christmas collection!

During the holidays, my daughter also wanted to start knitting, but truth be told, she doesn’t have the patience. She wanted to make a scarf for her best friend, but expected to be able to give it to her that afternoon! I had to break it to her that it can be a long process. I am still working on the baby blanket I started for my brother and sister in law’s impending arrival back in May!

It hasn’t all been holiday mode however, I have been doing some work this month too!  I’ve been working on a magazine feature using the Dovecraft Premium Festive Wonder collection, a sparkly, glamorous range of papers and embellishments. My favourites are the glittered stags, the snowflake charms and the glitter glues. I made a shaker card, covering the acetate with glitter glue before making the shaker frame. This would look great on any kind of celebration card, not just Christmas!

This month has also been all about my new craft toy – am early birthday present to myself and I am obsessed! The We R Memory Keepers Happy Jig is the coolest kit to make wire shapes really quickly and easily. I added a heart to my brother and sister-in-law’s anniversary card and have made paperclips for my diary. I will be making many more designs as I stocked up on loads of different coloured wires. Be warned - you can expect to see many more designs on my makes in the coming months!

ohhh loving the glitter glue on acetate, what a lovely effect. I also treated myself to a Happy Jig, I've had a little test out with it but hoping to get some more time to play and see what it can do, looking forward to seeing your makes, Angela x

I'm taking a leaf out of your book Kathy and ordering the happy jig as an early birthday to myself too. Love the bowl with the glasses on.

Thanks Martina, she is obsessed with Harry Potter so this was inevitable! Happy jigging!
